On July 4th, 2003 the Seaweed Café
opened its door on a shoestring budget with nine tables and
a staff of four serving breakfast and lunch. Instantly, it
became a prime destination on the Sonoma Coast. Clients requested
the restaurant to open for dinner. Slow food lovers immediately
recognized that the Seaweed Cafe philosophies were matching
theirs.
The Seaweed Café has been
designed by Melinda Montanye and Jackie Martine to offer a
cozy atmosphere for convivial dining. The two women have used
natural pigments from France to color the walls and hand crafted
most of the furniture.
On May 23rd, 2005 the Seaweed Cafe expanded and added a dining
room with views of the bay and adjacent pine groves, a fire
place, reclaimed wood furniture designed by Joe Szuecs of
Renga
Arts, hand crafted benches by John
Moldovan and painting by Robert DeVee of the Ren
Brown Collection as well as Melinda Montanye's own work.
To celebrate the opening of the new space, the Seaweed Cafe
presented the fabulous Merry Edwards
Fashion Show, pairing wines, food and fashion to create
remarkable effects.
